Cycling Cork to Westport August 2010
The weather on this day was ideal. Sunny, almost no wind, pleasant. From Maam Cross we headed north on a road which has to be one of the most spendid cycling roads in the world. The traffic had disappeared, it was hilly, on a large heath with mountains, marvellous green scenery and eventually reaching Leenane. Leenane is on Killary Harbour, Ireland's only Fjord. It's a stunning place. We went around the eastern shore and then along the North Shore and north to Delphi, reaching Doo Lough. At the beginning of Doo Lough we turned right and went over the Sheffrey Pass. This is not high but I think it is the most beatiful pass I've seen in the British Isles. It's on a very quiet road.
