Favourite Cycletouring Photos

More pages from this Post:  1

I'm idle this morning and am to photograph a wedding for a former work colleague after lunch, so my thoughts strayed to photographs.

These are some of my favourites from cycling.

Tuscany. Enough said!

Mary cycling on Achill Island, Co.Mayo, about 8 years ago.

Paul Harte in Corsica, more than 10 years ago. Approaching Porto. What a place!

Piana in Corsica. Nicest place on the planet.

Coll de Nargo, Catalunya, a Republic near Spain.

Michael Madden descending the Stelvio, Italy, about 1996

Island of Mull, Scotland. I want to be there right now!

A birdwatcher on Mull. I had a long chat with him. He was a smashing fellow.

The Cullins from Elgol. The view of views in Britain.

Bonny Scotland.

What superb photos! I was going to select a favourite but I'm spoilt for choice. Corsica looks amazing. I used to live on Mull. The owner of that little red roofed cottage is the sister of a friend of mine!

I'm with Hilary – it's tough to pick a favourite. I like the little round tummies of the geese in Dordogne; the switchbacks of Stelvio are amazing; the lighting of Le Gouffre is superb; the Sheffry Pass inspired us this spring ... but if push came to shove I'd have to vote for the birdwatcher dude – what a character!

These are the best cycling photographs I think I have ever had the pleasure to read over Garry. They are breath taking, particularly the Italian one with the downward spiraling road. That was my favourite as I know how hard it is to make a hill look steep. The first one in Tuscany... those colours! Wow the breath from you.... You are such a talented photographer, you should think of selling some of these.

They have it all, atmosphere, composition, colour. Real wow factor all together... Mucho jealous of your talent, the easy bit is pointing camera and firing it, but looking at these, you do so much more than that.

Thanks Mary, but these are the very few from a lot of poor ones!!

Can't decide on a favourite, but I am particularly drawn to Le Gouffre, Brittany and Sheffrey Pass, Co. Mayo. Oh, and the composition of Camino de Santiago.

I wonder when you went over to digital, Garry.

I got my first digital, I suppose, about 2002 but used some film until about 2 years ago. Many of above are scanned film. I scanned all my good negs and slides. It took about 2 years!

Nice selection Garry. I particularly like the Stelvio photograph but it was a pity he took the "Easy" ride up from Bormio.

I did Stelvio this year from both sides on the same day and it was a doddle...... I think everyone should have a Moto Guzzi California 1100i.

There were more cycles than bikes and cars the day I was there, not just racing bikes but all the bikes you can imagine, except I did not see a recumbent.
